A Good Ol’ Seafood Boil… in SLC

During the holiday season, my friends invited me down to Bucket o’ Crawfish. It wasn’t bad…. for Utah.

I don’t think I ever knew that A Christmas Carol came as a musical. Then again, if you had asked me which film I saw of A Christmas Carol, I would not be able to tell you that either.

The discovery process of my revelation and a few curious ghost stories from the cast can all be found on the new Pioneer Theatre Company blog I posted.

Loops with Emily Wells – Kilby Court

Emily Wells played Kilby Court last night! It. Was. Awesome.

Local band, Daisy and the Moonshines opened it up for Emily and Dark, Dark, Dark. If you’ve never seen Emily play live – it’s something you cannot miss. Just ask Jeremy, my friend who I completely guilted into not flaking out. I don’t care if you just worked after having to babysit drunkards all last night! Yep, that’s what I said to him… well, okay, not exactly. But hey, guilt works.

Forage (Before It’s Gone) – Food Porn Quicky

Before friends move, I strongly believe we should Forage together. At least, that’s what we did before my buddies Tiffany and Rick made the venture up to Seattle.

Last meal, before moving day….

Pallet of SLC – Food Porn Quicky

Pallet! A quick lunch – and a much needed work break – with Heather and Justin led us to Pallet on the last day of Dine-O-Round. The Dine-O-Round sounded lame so we opted for normal menu items. A bit pricey (local-vore though), but YUM! Next time: need to leave room for dessert.

Justin – BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich
kurobuta ham / white cheddar / onion strings

Heather – Pallet Burger
pork & beef patty blend / blue cheese / herbed
aioli / sauteed assorted mushroom / ciabatta bun

Me – Grilled Pancetta Sandwich
braised pear / goat cheese / arugula / balsamic

I love the feel of this place. Close to Pierpont on 400 West… It has this old-time speakeasy/flapper piano bar aura to it. Like an ol’ saloon, almost… inside, at least. Outside, it’s all very low-key. Okay, next time: photos of the restaurant as well.

Saffron Valley – Indian Chaat Food Porn Quicky

Saffron Valley! Why? Because, apparently, you can’t get much Indian food in Japan… A friend of a friend, and now a friend, came into town from Japan and wanted to eat Indian. So, we ventured out to South Jordan because I love the chaat that Saffron Valley carries! If there are other places with chaat that I do not know about in SLC, please let me know!

Dahi Puri – loveeeee it, one of the best reasons to drive all the way to South Jordan.

Naan – um, I was the only one who did not get this, but it looked good? Bryce, Midori and Kotomi finished all of their portions.

Paneer (Indian grilled cheese) Dosa – good but I think I prefer their other dosas. it’s all about that giant, beyond the plate, ridiculous dosa!

Saag with chicken – this was Bryce’s dish… I think he liked it…

Yum, yum, yum.

Gloriana at the Labor Day Music Festival – Salt Lake!

Gloriana played the Labor Day Music Festival this year at the Gallivan Center, downtown Salt Lake.

None of my friends knew who they were… *sigh* but I managed to find a couple to bear some country with me! And, of course, they were the very last band to go on stage. I guess they were the most popular? And, apparently, Love and Theft was also decently well-known. I felt like the other bands were all locals. See more photos at my Tumblr.

The festival bad, but these need definite improvements:

  • number of food vendors
  • better merchandise – ugly…probably why no one bought it and they were trying to sell it off at discounted prices in the end
  • more information on their website – like… a schedule? what to expect? etc.
  • better signage for the entrances/exits

Here’s hoping for next year…

Philadelphian Cheesesteaks – Sandy, Utah Food Porn Quicky

Nom, nom, nom. It’s the best way to describe this food after walking around a trade show for hours and not having any sustenance. From Downtown Salt Lake to far, far away south in Sandy – Bryce drove us down to the Philadelphian for dinner after browsing OR. It was decided.

Quick verdict? Huge, filling cheesesteaks for cheap. It’s a dive-y joint but I like it. Not mind-blowing, but a good choice for a cheap, greasy hunger pain cure.

Another Fine Forage – Food Porn Quicky with Mom

Another fine dinner at Forage – with mom, this time around. It was a late, late mother’s day dinner… because I was off gallivanting around the East Coast during the real deal.

On with the (food) porn! Yeesh, I feel so dirty saying typing that…
