American Eats Tavern in DC – Limited Edition Food Porn

Little did I know that American Eats Tavern was a limited experience from chef José Andrés. Luckily! I was able to grab some eats there during my May trip to DC. Thanks Michael!

So the way it was envisioned… new take on classics.

1. Grilled Butter Oysters – YUM. Butter, fresh oysters, how can you go wrong? Might I add that the presentation is also quite lovely… and edible. I like seaweed. Mmm. It’s the Asian in me.

2. Fried Chicken with Catsup – If meat could melt in your mouth, this chicken was at the melting point. It was so juicy, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside, I could’ve gained 20 pounds in 20 minutes. Although the catsup was great in itself, I think I mostly devoured my chicken straight up.

3. Cobb Salad – Michael’s entree. I think he wanted to feel healthy. He said it was very delicious though. I opted for something more unhealthy!

4. Steak, Hamburg Style – They were so tiny! The steak, like the chicken, was perfectly cooked. However, when I think “hamburg,” I automatically translate that to the Japanese, ハンバーグ (pronounced hambagu, which is roughly taken from hamburg). Here’s a couple examples and recipes from 3 Hungry Tummies and Just Hungry. Yeah, they are not the same. Well, I guess hambagu is like a poor-man’s version of this?

Crap, I wish I could go back to American Eats! I had no idea it was closing after just one year. It was a bit pricey, but definitely worth that exciting limited time visit.
