A Korean Winter Vacation, Day 5 – Galbi, Fortresses and Castles.

image

A trip to Korea cannot be complete without having some delicious galbi (marinated short ribs). And, apparently, Suwon, a city about an hour outside of Seoul, is famous for it! Off on the KTX train we went…

Off the train station, my friend Matt (who used to live in this city many moons ago) directed us towards the fortress that surrounds the city: Hawseong Fortress, a UNESCO venue.

We circled around South Gate, Paldamun, in the middle of the city to situate ourselves into some touring.

A Korean Winter Vacation, Day 1 – Seoul

Taiwan, Taiwan, Taiwan… I’ve been there many times over the years of my life. So, I decided I needed a getaway trip while I was on the other side of the country. What better place to go then a place with friends? Hello, freezing-ass cold Korea!

Well, after we got in, we took the bus and headed up to my friend Matt’s house. Then, got some dinner!

The next day, we started off on our own….

Taiwanese Eats: Hsinchu Cheng Huang Temple Night Market

If you’ve heard anything about Taiwan, it’s probably something or other about it’s food. Let’s admit it… Taipei 101 was soon left in the dust as the world’s tallest building almost as soon as it became known. But, there is a ton of food in this small country. I’m going to start with Hsinchu’s Cheng Huang (City God) Temple Night Market – 城隍廟夜市!

Engaging at Forage – Once Again…

My friends Michael and Runa recently got married in New York. However, before they did so, they came to Utah to see family and… of course…. dine at Forage. Here’s a quick recap of the night…

Boiling Point – Taiwanese Hot Pot Dining

As with any trip to the Los Angeles area, I always make my friend, Brooke, dine with me. Utah is limited in its culturally diverse dining… So, based on recommendations, I forced Brooke (mostly by guilt) to bear the waitlist at Boiling PointGardena location.

Itinerary Day Six in Belize: A Day at Caves Branch

For ease and lack of time, my friends and I settled on Caves Branch – nine days in the jungle!!

image

Many families and couples that we spoke to at the lodge told us that they had split their time between the jungle and the beach during their time in Belize. I planned this trip in the middle of working the Sundance Film Festival and didn’t think that far ahead. I even had to Skype with Runa in London during our taping of the Daily Buzz to grab her credit card info.

Needless to say, we didn’t regret one moment of our trip. Although next time, beach time would have to be a definite agenda item.

Anyway, on the day that Alex left for home (so he could get back to school), Runa and I stayed on campus.

Hang out at Caves Branch with us in photos after the jump >>
