An Oasis (Cafe) in the Desert…

A few weeks ago, we went to Oasis Cafe for Bryce’s birthday dinner. I had always been a bit hesitant to return here since I had found glass in my mashed potatoes my first visit.

However, the food was great. No glass! Warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start…

A tasting plate to whet the appetite…

Hummus, tapenade, caponata, cucumber noodles, and grilled carbs. The grilled ciabatta was awesome and the tapenade was probably my favorite. All was good, but I’m not sure it’d be a for-sure order every time.

Entrees! I had the salmon.

I will admit: I do not like raw tomatoes. Although these were grilled, every part of them except for that 1/2 centimeter on top was raw. I’m sure they were great for the tomato-loving kind, though. The honey-lavender polenta was what made me order this dish.. yum.

Bryce got the mushroom strozapretti.

These long funny-looking straw noodles are delicious. I might’ve liked his dish the best…

Alex got the wild mushroom risotto.

The egg on top looked enticing, but I can’t say the same for the scallions snaking their way through the risotto. No, I don’t love long stringy (and raw) scallions, but I do love their flavor. I didn’t try his dish but he cleaned it all up!

Kasumi got the eggplant parmesan risotto.

She cleaned up her plate as well. It looked really creamy.

Not too shabby, I’d say. I’d give it another go as I didn’t find any physical contaminants this time around, eh?

It was an Oasis in the desert… right next to a cute bookstore. We sat on outside (fantastic atmosphere) until it rained on us. So much for living in the desert…

Tour of Eataly – Pasta Food Porn

Eataly – aw, man. Fresh pasta (and dry pastas) cooked al dente with… oh, gawd, I can’t go on… I’m getting hungry. I’ll let the photos do the talking.

On our last day in NYC, Michael and I hit up Eataly – market, food, goods, education. We had lunch at the pizza and pasta corner of Eataly, La Pizza & La Pasta. After circling around the entire premises, I settled on fresh pasta. And yes, ever since that moment, I’ve been wanting to get a pasta machine or an attachment for my Kitchenaid. Pros and cons of either? Throw them at me!

NYC East Village Food Binge – Food Porn (Not So) Quicky

Anyone that vacations with me knows that I try to pack as many food highlights as possible… New York City was definitely no exception.

After watching Fuerzabruta at the Daryl Roth Theatre near Union Square, we begun Melani’s downward food spiral. She was eating healthy, proportionate meals at regular times of the day until I came to stay with her in NYC. Muwahahaha.

Pizza and Gnocchi at Sea Salt in Salt Lake

A few weeks ago, Chi took me out for a birthday lunch at Sea Salt. Here’s a little taste of the place to wet the taste buds…

We had the Fiorentina pizza: Clifford Farms Eggs, Black Truffle, Arugula, Prosciutto di Parma.

The gooey eggs are yum yum with the freshly carved prosciutto.

And we also had the Gnocchi alla Norma – Eggplant Fritti, Fresh Mozzarella, Campari Tomato, Garlic, Basil.

Pillowy goodness. MMM.

Moab – Touristy Version, Part I: Pasta Jays Restaurant

You can always count on Lisa (and Zac) for some good outdoor adventuring.

Well, with a friend of hers from Michigan in town – we played tourist this time around for Labor Day weekend and dined at a restaurant on Main Street. That right folks, no camp dinner tonight but food baked indoors in a machine! Pasta Jays in Moab, Utah.
